Try water first. It sounds strange but sometimes water is the best solution to remove or separate stains from carpets or rugs.

It doesn't always work but by pouring water on the affected area and using a towel blot the stain or spill. Don't rub or you could just spread the stain. Also be careful not to use too much water or you can damage the rug.

Another step to avoid any harmful solutions is to purchase Woolsafe approved logos on them to make sure it is safe for wools.

This will make sure that the solution will not harm your rug. You should absolutely still talk to an expert if you have any concerns, but solutions that are Woolsafe approved will be safe for use.

Besides these steps going to a rug cleaner is the probably the best option. If you damage you rug yourself then it might not be fixable.
