INTRODUCTION
I know that there are plenty of articles out there on house and home cleaning. But most of these are fragmented or incomplete, and most of time they're filled with with tips on cleaning products and cleaning methods. So, I've gone ahead and published a full cleaning system - a step-by-step and room-by-room guide that tells you exactly what to clean, and in what order. Use whatever cleaning products or methods you want, but be sure to follow this foolproof system used by the pros!
BATHROOM
To ensure a thorough and efficient clean, the following specific order of cleaning must be followed:
Bathtub / ShowerToiletSinkFloor
There are many sanitary concerns in the bathroom. Be sure not to cross-contaminate by using cloths used to clean dirtier surfaces on cleaned surfaces. Make sure that dirty water is dumped into the toilet. Bathrooms are often the home of mildew and soap stains, which should be cleaned carefully.
General Preparation
Before cleaning, remove all items in the bathroom such as rugs, mats, shampoos, soaps, and scales and place them in one corner of the room. This will ensure that no areas are missed, and no potential items damaged. Be sure to remember where they were placed. When cleaning the bathroom, be careful of wet floors and slippery bathtubs. Also, it may be helpful to vacuum the floor first to pick up hairs so they will not stick when a wet mop is used to mop the floor. Finally, be sure to unplug any electronics such as blow-dryers before cleaning the bathroom.
Bathtub / Shower
Use an all-purpose washroom cleaner to clean the walls, tiles or windows in the washroom. If stains are particularly stubborn, let the washroom cleaner sit for a while before beginning. Pay particular attention to shower tilesUse a mop head to reach the higher areas.Clean the tiles from top to bottom so that water does not drip down over cleaned areas.Clean both sides of shower doors or shower curtainBe sure not to miss the smaller areas where build-up may occur, including the soap holder, faucets, overflow, drain hood and showerheads. As areas in the shower are cleaned, replace the items (soaps and shampoos) back into the shower as you found them.
Toilet

Mirror & Cabinets

Sink

LIVING ROOM & BEDROOMS
Given the variety of furniture and fixtures in the living room and bedroom, specific clarification should be made with the customer for any unique items found during the quoting process. The order in which the living room and bedroom is done depends on the items in the rooms, but following the general principle of top-down and the corner furthest away from the door to the corner nearest. In the living room and bedroom, there are small nooks and crannies where dust can accumulate. The appropriate order to clean the living room & bedroom is:
DeclutterLightingFurnitureWindows & WindowsillsFloor
There may be many valuables in the living room & bedroom, such as paintings hung on walls and picture frames. During the quoting process, identify all valuable items such as antiques and do not clean them. When cleaning anything that does not appear to be strongly fixed to a wall, be sure to hold it with one hand to ensure nothing breaks. Also, since many items in the living room and bedroom tend to be made from wood and fabric, they tend not to be water resistant. Be sure to distinguish items which are water resistant from items that are not.
Declutter
Organize all the scattered items into a logical place so that it does not interfere with cleaning (i.e. children's toys on the floor); usually, this will involve simply moving the items into a cornerFor items that already are properly situated, do not move them (i.e. a family picture on an end table).
Lighting
Use extra caution when cleaning lighting fixtures as they may easily break.Lighting fixtures should be turned off before cleaning.If the lampshade for the lighting is made of water-resistant material, such as plastic or glass, damp dust the lampshade. Otherwise, dust the lighting fixture with a dry cloth or a duster.Look for cobwebs while cleaning the lighting fixtures and remove them as you spot them; they may be hidden in the corners of the room between walls and the ceiling, or between furniture
Furniture
To wipe any items that are placed on living room or bedroom furniture (such as shelves or tables), lift the items and damp dust underneath and behind them, and place them back to their original place. Repeat.Damp dust the exterior of all pieces of furniture using a cleaning product if necessary; be sure to wipe them dry especially if they are made from woodWithout specific instructions from the customer, do not open or clean inside furniture (i.e. cabinets or drawers)Be sure that you cleaned underneath all furniture (e.g. couches, beds and dressers etc.). Use an extensible mop to reach underneath.Vacuum couches, loveseats and sofas using the upholstery tool, cleaning under all couch pillowsFluff all couch pillows and place them back neatlyMake the beds in the bedroom by tucking in and smoothing all sheets and coverings
Windows, Windowsills & Mirrors
Use a glass cleaner such as Windex and a lint-free cloth for windows. Do not use paper towels, which leave residue on the glass.Wipe in one direction to clean windows to avoid swirling streaks, which can be seen after the water dries.For window screens, unless otherwise requested, do not remove. Use a vacuum attachment to dust and wipe with a wet cloth until cleanFor curtains, dust them by patting them down if they are made of cloth. For blinds, open and close the blinds to remove most of the dust, and wipe blinds with a wet cloth.Use a window-cleaner to clean mirrors as well, wiping in one directionBe sure to damp dust windowsills
Floors
Vacuum the floor from the farthest corner of the room to the door. Be sure to vacuum underneath the rugs, the rugs themselves, and the edges of the carpets with the crevice tool.Mop the floor using the appropriate cleaner. Be sure to always vacuum before moping, since a wet floor will cause dirt and hairs to stick to the floor.
KITCHEN
There is also likely to be a lot of grease in the kitchen due to cooking and is difficult to clean. For a thorough clean, follow these steps:

There are many appliances to be found in the kitchen. Only clean the exterior of appliances unless a customer specifically requests otherwise. Likewise, only the exterior areas should be cleaned unless the customer specifically requests otherwise. There are also many different types of surfaces you may find in the kitchen.
Also, there are many sanitary considerations when cleaning in the kitchen. Remember to use a different cloth/rag from what has been used in other areas of the home. Finally, for areas where grease has hardened, apply a degreaser product.
Decluttering
If there are any dirty dishes on tables, place them in the sink. If it is unclear whether the customer is done with the dish, put the dishes on the other side of the kitchen while cleaning one side, and move the dishes back to where it was once it is done.If there is food lying around the kitchen, be sure it is covered or move them to a place where cleaning is not taking place and the food is not threatened with contamination from dirt or cleaning products.If there are other items such as magazines lying around, organize them so that you can commence cleaning.
Clean Overhead Items
Begin cleaning the kitchen by checking the ceiling for cobwebs. If cobwebs exist, use an extensible duster to remove the cobwebs.Use a damp cloth and the appropriate product to clean the range hood above the stove since dust and dirt tends to accumulate there, and it is an easy spot to miss.If time permits, clean overhead cabinets and high-hanging home decor using a damp cloth and appropriate product. Be careful of loosely hung objects on the wall when cleaning.
Counter Area
The first thing to clean is countertop appliances. Countertop appliances are appliances that are placed on the counter. This includes but is not limited to, coffee makers, toasters, microwave ovens and blenders.Unless the customer has specifically requested, only clean the exterior of appliances other than the microwave oven.Clean only one appliance at a time and place them back when finished. Do not simultaneously clean multiple appliances.Remember to clean behind countertop appliancesCoffee-Maker >> Use a non-abrasive cloth and wipe with dish detergent and rinse. Remove the coffee pot and use dish detergent and rinse thoroughly.Toaster >> Use a non-abrasive cloth and wipe with dish detergent and rinse. Take out tray crumb from toaster ovenMicrowave Oven >> Use a non-abrasive cloth and multi-surface cleaner or dish detergent to wipe the exterior. Remove the spinning plate and wipe the plate and the interior of the microwave oven with dish detergent. Rinse everything thoroughly.Blender >> Use a non-abrasive cloth dish detergent to wipe the exterior. Use dish detergent and rinse thoroughly. Be extremely careful of the blades; do not reach close to the blades
When countertop appliances are cleaned, wipe the countertops with the appropriate product and a microfiber cloth. Many surfaces are damaged by sitting pools of water, so ensure that you have dried the countertops once cleaned.Appliances

Remove components and wipe them individually. A degreaser product may be applied. Wipe again with rinsed cloth to remove product.Conventional Oven >> Use a non-abrasive cloth and wipe with a multi-surface cleaner and wipe with rinsed cloth Wipe the rack of the conventional oven and the interior with a cloth and dish detergent. Wipe again with rinsed cloth to remove detergent.Refrigerator >> Use a non-abrasive cloth and wipe with a multi-surface cleaner and wipe with rinsed cloth. Remove all compartments and trays from the refrigerator and wipe the inside with dish detergent. Wipe again with rinsed cloth to remove detergent.Dishwasher >> Use a non-abrasive cloth and wipe with a multi-surface cleaner and wipe with rinsed cloth. Remove the racks from the dishwasher and all dishes. Wipe the racks with dish detergent. Wipe the interior of the appliance with dish detergent and wipe again with rinsed cloth to remove detergent.
Low Level Cabinets
If time permits, clean overhead cabinets and high-hanging home decor using a damp cloth and appropriate product.
Sinks
Fill the dishwasher with dirty dishes in the sink. If the dishwasher is full with clean dishes, remove the clean dishes from the dishwasher and place them in a cupboard. Be sure to consult with the customer what they want done with the dishes. If the dishwasher is full with dirty dishes and there is no room, clean the dishes with dish detergent and a sponge. Unless the customer specified, or there is absolutely no room in the dish washer, it is not the cleaning staff's responsibility to clean dishes.Do not operate appliances. Do not put dirty dishes back into the cupboard or put them with clean dishes. Once you have emptied the sink, use the appropriate product to remove stains from the sink. Make sure that the drain is unclogged and clean. Wipe the sink dry and the countertops try once complete.Change the kitchen dishcloth with a new one when you are finished
Garbage
Take out the garbage once the kitchen and the remainder of the rooms are done, so that there is no need to throw anything else into the garbage. When taking the garbage out, ensure that the bottom of the bag is intact and that there is no leakage. If there is, put the leaking bag into an intact garbage bag.Clean the garbage can after taking out the garbage, since bacteria can be spread from the bag to the can as you take the garbage out. Make sure to consult the customer as to where the garbage should be taken.Some customers have different bins for garbage, recycling and compost. Ensure that the correct bags are taken to the correct location.Wash hands after handling the garbage so that germs do not spread areas of the home.As a finishing touch, consider sprinkling some baking soda in the new garbage bag to prevent odours.
Vacuum & Mop
Once the entire kitchen area is cleaned, vacuum the floor. Do not use the vacuum on anything but the floor to avoid contamination. Once the kitchen is vacuumed, wash the floor with a mop, if time permits.
LAUNDRY ROOM
The laundry room is usually dusty due to the neglect it usually receives compared to the other rooms in the house. The driver should verify that the customer wants this room cleaned. The major items to clean in the laundry room are the washer and dryer.
Check the ceilings for any cobwebs and remove them using an extensible dusterClean the tops of any surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner and a damp clothFor the washing machine, use a cloth and an all-purpose cleaner to clean the exterior. Wipe down any excess detergent that may have spilled in the laundry room.For the dryer, clean the exterior in the same manner as the washing machine. If time permits, clean the lint filter, which should be easily accessible on standard dryers. Once you remove the filter, simply wipe off the lint with a damp cloth into a small garbage bag.Quickly vacuum and mop the floor in the laundry room if time permits
